Diuretics

Diuretic is a medicine that helps to reduce the amount of water and sodium in the body by increasing the amount of urine that kidneys produce. Sometimes diuretics are called “water tablets”. Exist several categories of diuretics. Though all of them increase the excretion of water from the body, each single one does it in a specific way. Three most common types are: thiazides, loop diuretics and potassium-sparing diuretics. Most diuretics come in the form of tablets, but injections are available as well. The excretion of water from the blood reduces the total volume of the blood. And the result is: less work for the heart and a lower blood pressure. Diuretics are used to treat blood pressure and heart problems associated with high blood pressure. It is as well recommended to prevent or improve symptoms in a variety of other conditions: polycystic ovary syndrome, congestive heart failure, and edema, certain kidney disorder, such as kidney stones, diabetes insipidus, osteoporosis, and female hirsutism.
