It's not a news that one's body can become a host for injuring bacteria. If so, antibiotics are prescribed to cure a bacterial infection. Usually, a specific kind of antibiotics is chosen to fire certain infections. Medicine considers antibiotics to be one of the most commonly prescribed drugs in modern practice. Antibiotics work either by killing or injuring bacteria. Nowadays the list of antibiotics is represented by over 100 kinds of drugs. A doctor will determine what kind of an antibiotic should be used in every patient's condition. The majority of antibiotics have two names, such as a name according to the drug's chemical structure and a brand name. That explains the fact that the same kind of drug produced by different companies can have a different name. On the whole, antibiotics could be divided into following main categories: Penicillins, Cephalosporins, Macrolides, Fluoroquinolones, Sulfonamides, Tetracyclines, Aminoglycosides. Since every type of antibiotics is effective for a specific infection, one's needs should be evaluated to make a prescription. Such factors as allergies should be taken into consideration to eliminate potential allergic reactions. The following drugs represent antibiotics: Amoxil, Cipro, Zithromax.
